Will gun control ultimately include arrests for possession of broken, historic military firearms?

Breitbart London reports this is exactly what's happening to John Carter, a Freeman of both Coventry and London, who faces five years imprisonment for possession of "a broken World War II pistol which he was given by a friend who served at the Battle of Monte Cassino in 1944."

Before you say that couldn't happen here – that we would never arrest members of the greatest generation, or their sons and daughters, or other vets who might be in possession of guns from World War II, Korea, or Vietnam – just remember how Obama treated the greatest generation when they flew into DC for honor flights in early October 2013.

Moreover, think of the nonchalant manner in which Democrats have talked of confiscating firearms during the last year.

Just eight days after the heinous crime at Sandy Hook Elementary, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) said he was weighing his options on gun control, and one of the the possibilities he mentioned was "confiscation."

Here are Cuomo's exact words: "I don't think legitimate sportsmen are going to say, 'I need an assault weapon to go hunting.' Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option – keep your gun but permit it."

Cuomo chose to go with an "assault weapon" ban.

Moreoever, as Breitbart News reported on December 28, in California universal background checks have already led to registration and confiscation laws.

So in one sense, what John Carter is facing in London over possession of broken World War II pistol is both geographically and practically removed from the U.S. experience. Yet in another sense, it's exactly where gun control Democrats will take us if we continue voting them into office.
