JPFO Challenges Reporters on
Gun Licensing and Registration Issue

Should the First and Second Amendments
get equal treatment under the law?

In a scathing editorial in its newly released publication, The Bill of Rights Sentinel, the civil-rights group Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership is asking if it is time to license and register news reporters.

The White House Press Corps already is registered and background checked, why not treat all press members the same way, the 27-year-old national organization wonders.

Author Alan Korwin, who works with JPFO, observes, “The media is quick to provide coverage for calls to license and register gun owners, despite blatant constitutional problems those suggestions contain. The hypocrisy is immediately obvious when you propose the same standards to reporters, editors and the rest of the media.”

According to media watchers, harm done to individual citizens and the body politic by media deception, misleading coverage, selective storytelling, blatant omissions, negligent mistakes and even outright lying at times may constitute criminal activity. Why shouldn’t reporters have licenses subject to revocation for malfeasance, collusion and news corruption? At least, they should pay annual taxes and fees, as they demand of gun owners, to achieve equality.

Guns save lives, guns stop crime, guns protect you and guns are good, everyone knows that–where are those stories, JPFO asks? The media demonstrates a nearly 100% error-of-omission rate, they say. Something must be done. Reporters and editors mislead everyone, including the children. Guns are why America is still free, unlike the enemies we face. The unlicensed media is portraying a false narrative, thanks to lax media-control.

JPFO acknowledges it could be as dangerous to press journalists for licenses, tests, fingerprints, photographs, centralized criminal databases, tracking, background checks for the purchase of their tools, each time, with quantity limits (and no appeals), waiting periods to cool off, and to ensure they are who they say they are with no blots on their records, as identified by the alphabet soup of federal agencies, with a written mechanism for appealing false positives, with plastic-coated wallet cards with expiration dates -- as it is to seek this for exercising the Second Amendment.

Yet innocent decent Americans must endure all that to own and possess private property theoretically protected by the same Bill of Rights exempting the media from similar or even basic controls. At the least this disjoint needs scrutiny. Because the pen is mightier than the sword, and entire regimes can be destroyed without shots being fired, legal parity between pens and swords would provide needed equality.

End the intrusive and illegitimate government interference with the freedom to lawfully keep and bear arms, JPFO says, or treat news media equally under the Bill of Rights, and help restore balance in America.

A public, well educated in the right and proper role of arms in our modern society, is the good and natural protector of the people and freedom. Education removes the need for deceptive government “gun control.” JPFO’s Kosher Gun Laws adequately address crime. We endorse wholesome firearm training for everyone starting at an early age, for safety. L’chaim! Founded in 1989 by Aaron Zelman (1946-2010), Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership is America’s Most Aggressive Civil Rights Organization. So-called “gun control” does not control guns nor does it control criminal behavior. What it does do is disarm the innocent, leaving them helpless in the face of petty criminals, tyrannical governments and genocide. History keeps proving this.
