It seems that the list of gun-related topics President Joe Biden is “not joking” about continues to grow.

On numerous occasions, when making his ignorant assertion that, “Deer don’t wear Kevlar vests,” the president has followed that with a terse, “I’m not joking.” Now, apparently, he’s not joking about banning popular semi-auto firearms legally owned and used by millions of lawful Americans.

“By the way, I'm going to get an assault weapons ban,” Biden told Jake Tapper during an Oct. 11 CNN interview. “Before this is over, I'm going to get that again. Not a joke, and watch.”

Before you chuckle, Biden is actually closer to getting his biggest anti-gun wish than he has been since taking office, despite a Quinnipiac University poll in June showing support for a so-called “assault weapons” ban had fallen to the lowest point since the pollster began asking about such a ban way back in 2013.

In August, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1808, titled the “Assault Weapons Ban of 2022.” Much like the Clinton Gun Ban of the 1990s, this measure would ban many firearms simply by their appearance. Additionally, it would ban hundreds of models of AR-style and AK-style rifles by name, and even many pistols and shotguns, along with standard-capacity ammunition magazines that hold more than 15 rounds.

At the time of the bill’s passage in the House, Jason Ouimet, executive director of NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, said the restrictions in that measure run afoul of several Supreme Court rulings.

“Barely a month after the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in NYSRPA v. Bruen, gun-control advocates in Congress are spearheading an assault upon the freedoms and civil liberties of law-abiding Americans,” Ouimet said. “The promises made in H.R. 1808 are nothing short of a lie based on willful ignorance of the disastrous 1994 Clinton Gun Ban, which failed to produce any significant drop in crime.”

The measure is now in the U.S. Senate, where no action has been taken yet. Come January, when the new Congress convenes, Biden’s push to ban firearms from law-abiding Americans will likely begin anew.

Of course, Biden loathes anyone who fights against his proposed ban on semi-auto rifles and other firearms. In August, he actually mocked and threatened those who advocate for the Second Amendment, saying, “And for those brave, right-wing Americans who say it’s all about keeping America—keeping America as independent and safe: If you want to fight against a country, you need an F-15.”

In truth, it’s not a “country” that pro-freedom advocates want to fight against; rather, it’s unconstitutional laws that take away our right to defend ourselves and our families, and against which the pro-Second Amendment community fights.

As Biden said, he’s not joking about his sweeping gun ban. We must be just as serious in our opposition to that measure and all such proposals that would further infringe on our uniquely American freedom.
