Will NAACP Sell Black People into Powerlessness and Oppression?

Do Americans need to hear it from some superior extraterrestrial species before they will comprehend the truth?

When black people were owned as slaves in America before 1865, their owners had the weapons to keep those slaves under control. Black people in most slave states were either prohibited from owning and carrying weapons, or they had to get their masters' permission to have a weapon. When slaves disobeyed any order, the masters could thrash the slaves within an inch of their lives.

It was a system of fear, torture, agony -- made possible because masters had firepower and slaves had none. Defenseless slaves faced a lifetime under that regime. It took a bloody civil war, and empowerment of black people with legal rights and firearms, to bury slavery forever. It took over 100 years of struggle to ensure black voting rights and the end of legalized segregation.

NAACP Gone Mad?

Straight out of the twilight zone comes the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The NAACP wants to take the weapons away from black people -- the very weapons that ensured their freedom and security. The same weapons that drove away the hooded KKK terrorists. The same weapons that protected civil rights activists from racist violence in the 1960's.

Mouthing the Beltway Blather of "gun control," NAACP CEO Kweisi Mfume (Kwah EE see Oom FOO may) announced on July 12 his organization's plan to ask a court to order firearms manufacturers "to distribute their product responsibly." Mfume further stated, "Easily available handguns are being used to turn many of our communities into war zones. -- Urban communities have sadly become so accustomed to the prevalence of firearms in their neighborhoods that they are no longer shocked at the sound of gunfire."

Mfume and the NAACP are trying to force gun manufacturers to do something, anything -- Because Black People cannot be trusted with firearms. The manufacturers must act "responsibly" because black people will not. Black people have "become so accustomed" to violence in their neighborhoods that black people don't care to fight crime themselves. That is how Mfume and the NAACP are insulting the black community. And many black Americans are accepting the insult as though it were true.

What does the NAACP want? Trigger locks, because black people as a race don't know how to safely handle a gun? Limitations on gun sales into black neighborhoods, because black people as a race are likely to be criminal?

Think about what the NAACP is saying: the courts must force the manufacturers to change how they make and sell guns -- because black people can't handle firearms and can't control themselves.

This won't be the first time black people have been slandered. The term Saturday Night Special, referring to a small pistol, comes from the racial epithet "Nig**rtown Saturday Night." The 1968 Gun Control Act was not an anti-crime bill -- it was passed in response to black rioting in major cities in the mid-1960's. "Gun control" is about disarming black people (and others) and keeping them under government control.

Rights Sold Down the River

Shall the descendants of the Freedom Riders turn over the tools of their liberty to the government? Must black people become the meek servants of the welfare state -- relying upon bureaucrats for food, clothing, shelter and protection from crime?

Most despised among Jews were those who helped the Nazis round up and exterminate other Jews. Most hated were the blacks who held the coats for the overseers who were whipping the other slaves. Shame on the NAACP for seeking to place black Americans right back under the thumb of armed racists, government police, and violent criminals.

Invitation to Dialogue

We at JPFO cannot believe that all NAACP leaders and members accept this effort to disarm black people in the face of violent crime. We invite members of the black community to dialogue with us about the racist roots of "gun control" and the questionable wisdom of disarming minority groups when racial tensions are mounting.

Call To Action

JPFO members and supporters should maximize the opportunity to reach out to the millions of peaceful, hard-working, freedom-loving black Americans by:

(1) Writing a letter to every newspaper and magazine editor, pointing out the NAACP's senseless strategy and insult to all black people. Take ideas from this alert, or use one of the sample letters at our website (http://www.jpfo.org/gpj4.htm).

(2) Getting copies of Gran'pa Jack #4, "Gun Control Is Racist," into the hands of every black American. (http://www.jpfo.org/books.htm).

(3) Writing and faxing messages to the NAACP which challenge that organization to explain why it is advancing the cause of "gun control," when "gun control" started as and continues to be a racist policy. NAACP can be reached at:

You can contact other branches of the NAACP. Click on http://www.naacp.org/

(4) Write, fax and email a letter to the Black Broadcasters Alliance which challenges that organization and its members to distance themselves from the NAACP's "disarm the black people" policy. Use one of the letters on JPFO's website as a sample, or the letter contained below in this Alert. The BBA can be reached at

(5) Contact one or more of the other minority rights activist groups listed at http://www.naacp.org/links/. Use one of the letters at the JPFO website (address above) or the letter below in this alert.

(6) Cross-post this Alert on every newsgroup where issues of race and rights are discussed (use good Internet manners, of course).

We must help black Americans protect their right to keep and bear arms. Our fundamental rights apply to all of us. On the other hand, we cannot allow the problems of one community to become the excuse to destroy the rights of all Americans. Please do not sign off from the Internet before you have done at least one thing on this list of items -- a quick fax letter, an email, something.

Below is a sample letter to an organization other than the NAACP. Feel free to use it verbatim or tailor it as you see fit. If you get any responses to your efforts, please send what you get back to us at JPFO. We will publicize the positions that the NAACP and other organizations are taking in response to your letters.

Dear Ladies & Gentlemen:

The NAACP has announced its plans to sue firearms manufacturers, not for money damages, but to force those companies to "act responsibly" in the making and selling of firearms to the black community. Kweisi Mfume and the other NAACP leaders who are advancing this new form of "gun control" have forgotten history.

Many Americans do not realize that "gun control" laws were first created to keep Black people powerless and enslaved. This racist purpose continued after the Civil War, when former slave-states devised more "gun control" laws. Disarmed by these laws, free Black people were defenseless against repressive police and racist attacks. Over 3,700 Black people were lynched, and thousands of others were assaulted, intimidated and terrorized by the Ku Klux Klan and racist mobs.

Florida Supreme Court Justice Buford, writing his 1941 opinion in Watson v. Stone, admitted that Florida's "gun control" law "was passed for the purpose of disarming the Negro laborers... The statute was never intended to be applied to the white population and in practice has never been so applied."

"Gun control" laws are designed to disarm the minorities, the poor, and the disfavored people in society. Once they are defenseless, these people become the victims of racist and criminal attacks. Right-thinking Americans must resist and overturn all of these racism-rooted "gun control" schemes. The undeniable facts of history show that American "gun control" comes from racism and bigotry.

Mfume and the NAACP are shamelessly insulting black people with their new lawsuit proposal. They are trying to force gun manufacturers to do something, anything -- because black people cannot be trusted with firearms.

The term Saturday Night Special, referring to a small pistol, comes from the racial epithet "Nig--rtown Saturday Night." The 1968 Gun Control Act was not an anti-crime bill -- it was passed in response to black rioting in major cities in the mid-1960's. "Gun control" is about disarming black people (and others) and keeping them under government control.

Does your organization agree with the NAACP's position? Does your organization believe that your members are incapable of using firearms responsibly for defense against violence? Do you and your members want to give up their fundamental right to self-defense, and meekly accept whatever protection from violence that the government offers?

Please let me know your organization's position on "gun control" and the NAACP's lawsuit.

Sincerely,
